Track rollers are important components of the undercarriage in tracked engineering vehicles. They are used to support the weight of the vehicle and roll along the track group. They also function to confine the track, preventing lateral slippage. When the vehicle turns running, the track rollers force the track to skid on the ground. Track rollers often operate in mud, water, dust, and sand, and enzdure severe impacts. Therefore, highly requirement for reliable sealing, wear-resistant rims and low rolling resistance are necessary.
The functions of the track roller mainly concluded two points:
1) To transfer the weight of the machine to the ground and to roll upon the track.
2) To prevent derailment, the track roller must also be able to restrain the track from lateral movement.
Track rollers are divided into single-flange track rollers and double-flange track rollers, they are the small wheels that contact the ground under the track, pressed down by the vehicle's weight.
The wheel at the front in the direction of travel is the idler, the one at the rear with the sprocket ring is the sprocket, and the one supporting upper part of the track is the carrier roller. These are commonly known as the "four wheels".
